The headless CMS software market was valued at US$ 328.5 million in 2019 and it is projected to increase almost five times (US$ 1628.6 million) by 2027.
This en masse adoption of the headless CMS is, in part, due to the enhanced security and performance, flexibility, scalability and improved localization, but also due to the digital revolution pushed forward by COVID-19.
This expansion can only mean good news for digital agencies who are looking to share in these profits. Let’s take a look at how you maximize your profits with Storyblok and what our partners, Made People and Twentyseven, say about this topic.

Training efficiency

All traditional CMSs come with a built-in technology stack. More or less you are forced to build your development team around said programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
At the opposite side of the spectrum, Storyblok gives you the freedom to step back from a certain technology and focus on the solution and strategy of platform development, as it is virtually language agnostic. You are no longer locked in a specific framework, the team is free to build their own stack according to the available skills and knowledge. Even in recruiting new team members, you can start focusing more on the cultural and organizational fit, building a team that works well together.
Another great benefit of being able to choose your own stack is that you can easily move from offering monolithic CMS services to headless with low impact.
Beyond general statements, here is what our partners say about how fast their developers got accustomed to Storyblok:

Quote from Twentyseven,

  • Lightspeed! There is good and clear documentation to be found. That helped a lot in getting used to Storyblok quickly. We are still learning though.

Quote from Made People,

  • Very fast, when onboarding new frontend developers they usually get comfortable and self going during the first day.

Development efficiency

With Storyblok your teams have the capability to work agile. They can deliver much more quickly and cheaper. Content editors and developers can start working on their part at the same time, without worrying about the design. Similarly, the designer can focus on delivering a great experience without worrying about the restrictions a monolithic CMS would impose.
Once again, we were able to support this affirmation with concrete examples and quotes from our partners.
Looking at a case study, take_it agency revitalized Emarsys’ brand site in a little over a month. This process included the building of the new site on Storyblok and the migration of the old content from their Wordpress site.

The same applies for more complex projects, like The Originals: Renault’s Digital Museum built by Razorfish France. The project is a virtual museum, hosting an emblematic car collection of Renault, integrated with an e-shop. In less than 6 months, Razorfish France designed, built and marketed two platforms in 6 languages, one for The Originals Museum and one for The Originals Store e-shop, which had to communicate with each other to ensure the continuity of the customer journey.

Quote from Twentyseven,

  • We do believe that working with Storyblok can speed up development as we do not need backend developers for the most part (in our current structure).

Reusability

Storyblok fully supports the atomic design approach. Our unique multi-layer component-based approach allows content creators to reuse their well-structured content. They can create and nest components without limits, fill them with content, and customize them as needed.
This means you can identify the similar sections and break them down into smaller parts, to the smallest unit (eg. headline), which you can reuse across templates and types of pages. Essentially, you create a toolbox of elements which can be used by your client to create endless variations via the visual editor.

Quote from Made People,

  • We almost always copy/paste Storyblok components between our projects/space in a very easy way. We are also working with updating existing fields type plugins for better UX which means all our projects with that plugin get the update instantly when updating the existing plugin, which gives our customers great value.

The level of reusability goes beyond individual projects. Developers are able to reuse components and spaces across multiple projects, while observing the specific design and functionality requests of each project.

Quote from Twentyseven,

  • We created VueJS components that are very reusable in other Storyblok projects. We also came up with creating wrapper components so we can use our Storyblok components with any kind of front-end framework.

Migration efficiency

In recent years, traditional CMS solutions have become overbuilt and bloated. Vendors are stripping out features, delivering less functionality, charging more, and at the same time shifting the success of the CMS on the developers.
At the other end of the spectrum, headless CMS allows agencies to take control of the environment and editing experience in a liberating way. It gives access to a framework on which you can build effectively, efficiently and cost-effective.
More than that, Storyblok has built-in content migration functionality for traditional and headless CMSs

Client Onboarding efficiency

Customer onboarding is the first step of the customer journey, and, arguably, the most important since it sets the stage for your relationship with them. With Storyblok you can take a customer-centric approach to onboarding, increasing the customer lifetime value and transforming new users into brand advocates.

Quote from Twentyseven,

  • Storyblok onboarding is really easy. The visual editor is very user friendly and documentation is good so with a small introduction they are good to go.

Time to market

When it comes to content delivery we use the same agile, reiterative approach as we do to development. Siloed content, which is prone to errors and difficult to manage, becomes a thing of the past. Equipped with reusable content modules, custom workflows, versioning, custom user permissions and approval processes they can plan, test, re-edit, schedule and publish content. There is room for mistakes and repairs before the content reaches the users.

Quote from Made People,

  • Our clients are very happy with the way you can handle localization and market specific content in storyblok and that they can control the complexibility of it and work smarter/more efficiently with their internal resources in that way.

Performance

First things first, any developer will tell you that just by using a headless CMS won’t make your site automatically faster. It’s the way you use it, specifically how you use the features of JAMstack. The differentiating factor between a JAMstack site and a website built on traditional website technologies is that JAMstack doesn’t rely on a server, it is pre-built and serverless. Static files are generated and then sent out over a CDN (content distribution network). Server-like functionalities are handled by third-party services, connected via APIs.
By using Storyblok and the right hosting service, you can take full advantage of the JAMstack architecture and improve the performance considerably.

Conclusion

Storyblok was built in the mindset of being equally useful to developers and marketers. This is reflected in the very intuitive and user-friendly UX/UI we offer.
Aside from that, our principles are deeply rooted in the agile manifesto. We value simplicity over complexity, we craft with passion, we listen to our customers, we treat all our clients equally, and we practice a “deliver quickly, deliver often” approach. We offer a peak level of performance with the least amount of inputs from your side to achieve the highest amount of output. In one word: efficiency.
