Inside Our First Customer Hackathon: Storyblok x Virgin Media O2
Storyblok is the first headless CMS that works for developers & marketers alike.
Earlier this summer, something exciting happened in the heart of London. In collaboration with Virgin Media O2, Storyblok hosted our first-ever customer hackathon – a two-day innovation sprint where developers, designers and marketers came together to build impactful digital experiences powered by Storyblok.
The result? A vibrant room full of ideas, innovation and projects that pushed the boundaries of what’s possible with headless architecture.
Why We Hosted This Hackathon
At Storyblok, we believe in empowering builders — whether they’re developers building with our API-first CMS or marketers crafting beautiful digital experiences. This hackathon was born out of a shared vision with Virgin Media O2: to foster innovation by getting hands-on with Storyblok.
We wanted to create a space where teams could bring ideas to life while experimenting, learning and connecting with one another.
The Experience in Numbers
Here’s a snapshot of what went down:
- 35 hackers participated, forming into 8 teams
- Attendees came from 8 companies and partner agencies: Virgin Media O2, Wind And Kite, Nearform, Barclays Bank, Ridgeway, Unified, Major Digital, Cloudroit
- Built innovative projects in just 30 hours
- Supported by 10+ mentors, judges and speakers
- All projects were built with Storyblok at the core
The energy, creativity and collaboration in the room were unmatched, from brainstorming project ideas to dedicated mentoring sessions and final demos!
Top Projects & Winners
Team High Five (Eugene Agyeman, Rajan Gopalji, Gabriel Moraru, Jordan Lapointe, Alan Longley) took the top spot with StoryTeller, a project that uses AI to turn the spoken word into websites with Storyblok by leveraging the Management API to automatically generate stories from prompts.
Team FiveStar (Drew Higginson, Carol Enache, Andreya Ezekiel-Meade, Jonathan Martin, Valentin Alexeev) came in as first runner-up with Tonai, an AI-powered extension helping content creators generate branded content for Virgin Media O2 through a custom Storyblok content authoring tool.
Team Wind & Kite (James Allen-Lewis, Nathan Day) secured second runner-up with a Real-time Automated Accessibility Report plugin that integrates with the Storyblok Visual Editor using the AXE Framework to provide live accessibility checks.
