Innovating & Automating: Inside the Storyblok x AWS Hackathon 2026

Storyblok is the first headless CMS that works for developers & marketers alike.

This past June, Storyblok teamed up with AWS, who opened the doors of their Amsterdam office to host two days of building, learning, and collaboration. Bringing Storyblok's composable content platform together with AWS's developer community created the perfect environment for teams to push what's possible – and it's the kind of collaboration we're excited to build on.

The result? A room full of sharp ideas, fast iteration, and projects that showed just how far Storyblok's ecosystem can be pushed in just 30 hours.

Why We Hosted This Hackathon

We wanted to give developers a space to get hands-on with the newest parts of the Storyblok platform – FlowMotion and the MCP Server, and see what they'd build when given real problem statements, mentorship, and a tight deadline. Partnering with AWS meant we could bring that experience to builders right at the AWS Amsterdam Hub – a space built with developers in mind, and a natural fit for two platforms that both put developer experience first. From the moment teams walked in, the AWS team on the ground made everyone feel welcome, checking in throughout both days and making sure builders had everything they needed to focus on their projects.

The Experience in Numbers

  • 12+ developers, 6 teams, 30 hours of building time across two days
  • Attendees included customers and partners such as TomTom, iQuality, Lokalise, Chipsoft, Pliant GmbH, and University of Amsterdam
  • Supported by 7+ mentors, judges, and speakers from the Storyblok team
  • Teams competed across 4 problem statements — Content Automation & AI Workflows, Content Intelligence & Optimization, Composable Experiences & Integrations, and Design-to-Code & Developer Experience
  • $5,000 in prizes awarded across four categories

The Projects & Winners

Grand Prize : LightBlok by Team TomTom (Adam Michalowski, Maksim Iakovenko, Michiel van der Ros). LightBlok scans a Storyblok space for unused features and quick wins, then fixes them automatically, chaining together Claude Code, FlowMotion, and the Storyblok MCP Server to detect and resolve issues in real time.

Runner-Up : Guardian by Team Chipsoft & UOA (Darian Samsoedien, Joy Lin). Guardian answers the question every reviewer asks when a component schema changes: what does this break in our real content? It reads live stories through the Storyblok MCP Server, proves the impact deterministically, and explains the result in plain English via a local LLM.

Best FlowMotion Automation : Context-Aware Localization Automation by Team Lokalise (Stefan Köhle, Eduards Fathelbajanovs). This project automatically localizes content the moment it's published – classifying pages, routing sensitive content to human review, and syncing finished translations straight back into Storyblok via FlowMotion.

Best MCP Server Innovation : Content Guard by Team Iquality (Roy Vousten, Ronald Nieuwenhuis, Abdel Danba). Content Guard is an AI-powered compliance gate that catches accessibility, brand, and regulatory issues before content goes live, with one-click AI fixes surfaced directly in the editor via the Storyblok MCP Server.

Special Shoutout

None of this happens without the mentors, judges, and speakers who spent both days moving between tables, unblocking teams and pressure-testing ideas. A big thank you to everyone from the Storyblok team who supported on the ground. A special thank you to AWS for hosting us in Amsterdam and for their commitment to the developer community – this is just the beginning of what we're building together.

And of course, thank you to all the teams, every project built during this hackathon reflected real creativity and technical depth, not just the ones that took home prizes.

Until Next Time

If this recap has you itching to build something of your own, you don't need a hackathon to start. Dive right in to see what's possible with Storyblok's ecosystem, explore Storyblok FlowMotion and Storyblok MCP Server, or share what you're building in the #made-with-storyblok channel on our Discord.

Until next time, keep building with Storyblok! đź’™
