AI Usage Guidelines for Candidates
Storyblok Interview Process
Our Approach
Storyblok is an AI-native company. We use AI tools every day to move faster, work smarter, and build better products. It would be inconsistent — and frankly a little odd — for us to ban AI from our hiring process entirely.
At the same time, our interview process is designed to help us understand you: your thinking, your experience, and how you work. AI can support that process, but it shouldn’t replace it.
This document sets out what we expect from candidates when it comes to AI usage, at each stage of the process.
The Core Principle
Be honest about how you use AI, and make sure your submissions reflect your genuine thinking and experience.
There are no hidden rules here. We’re trying to hire someone we can work with — and that means we need to see what you’re actually like, not what an AI thinks a good answer looks like.
What’s Acceptable at Each Stage
Application (CV, Cover Letter, Application Questions)
You may use AI to help refine and polish your CV and cover letter. We ask that:
- The content reflects your actual experience and is written in your own voice.
- You do not use AI to fabricate experience, credentials, or skills you don’t have.
- Your answers to application questions should represent your real perspective and reasoning — AI can help you structure or tighten your writing, but the ideas should be yours.
Take-Home Assessments
AI use in take-home tasks depends on the brief you receive.
- If the brief explicitly permits AI use, you’re welcome to use it — and we may ask you to explain how and where you used it.
- If the brief does not mention AI, please treat it as not permitted and complete the task independently.
- Submitting AI-generated work as entirely your own, where AI was not permitted, is a breach of this policy.
We’ll always be clear in the brief itself. If you’re unsure, ask your recruiter before you start.
Live Interviews
We ask that you do not use AI tools in real time during live interviews — this includes hidden earpieces, screen-sharing bots, whisper tools, or any similar technology.
We want to have a genuine conversation with you. Using AI to generate your answers in real time means we’re effectively interviewing the AI, not you.
Live Coding Interviews (Engineering Roles)
For engineering and technical roles, AI tool use may be explicitly encouraged — because using AI tools effectively is part of the job.
Your recruiter or hiring manager will let you know what’s permitted and expected before the interview. Where AI use is invited, we’ll be assessing how you use it: your judgment, your ability to review and adapt AI output, and the quality of your thinking alongside the tool.
Accommodations
Accessibility comes first. If you require assistive AI tools or need any part of the process adapted to suit your needs, reach out to your recruiter before that stage and we'll make sure the right adjustments are in place.
What’s Not Acceptable
The following are not permitted at any stage:
- Using AI to impersonate yourself in a live interview (deepfake video or voice technology).
- Using AI in real time during a live interview without disclosure, to generate answers on your behalf.
- Submitting AI-generated work in take-home tasks where AI use was not permitted.
- Using AI to fabricate or misrepresent your experience, qualifications, or skills.
If You’re Unsure
If you’re ever uncertain whether a particular use of AI is acceptable, just ask your recruiter. We’d rather you ask than guess.
What Happens if This Policy is Breached
If we identify that this policy has been materially breached, where permitted under applicable law, we reserve the right to:
- Remove a candidate from the process.
- Withdraw an offer of employment, including after acceptance.
In cases of deliberate misrepresentation, Storyblok may take further action. We take honesty seriously.
