We've released a release candidate (RC) of the next major version of @storyblok/react. Version 8 is a rebuilt SDK with a simpler API, designed to work well with modern React and Next.js, including React Server Components.

Install it with:

bash

npm i @storyblok/react@8.0.0-rc.0

What's new

  • New architecture: a smaller API focused on how React and Next.js apps are built today.
  • StoryblokBlock replaces StoryblokComponent: the new name matches our "block" terminology and avoids confusion with React components.
  • StoryblokPreview: a new component for live preview in the Visual Editor:

jsx

<StoryblokPreview
  story={story}
  renderContent={(live) => (
    <div>{live.content ? <StoryblokBlock block={live.content} /> : null}</div>
  )}
/>

Upgrading from v7

v8 includes breaking changes. Follow the migration guide from v7 to update your project. If you stay on v7, nothing changes for you: v7 remains the stable version and its documentation stays available.

The RC period will run for about a month before we release v8 as stable. Try it out and share your feedback on GitHub or in our Discord community.
