UI Accessibility Updates
- User Experience
After finalizing the accessibility-focused refactor of our Design System, we are now working to improve accessibility across our platform’s UI. In collaboration with Fable, we gathered feedback on selected user flows from users with disabilities and conducted an audit with AxessLab on our most frequently used pages to ensure maximum impact.
Since, we have made significant accessibility improvements in terms of functionality and usability, as well as through a reduction in errors from automated accessibility tests.
Key Functionalities:
Skip link added to the main navigationVisibility of focus styles and fixing color contrast: on a variety of components including the SpaceCards variants, according on spaces overview, layer tree view and apps in app overview listImproved graph accessibility: Exploration & remediation of accessibility issues on our data visualizations and graphs on dashboard page; providing a table alternative to interact with the data presented in the graphsSemantic structures, e.g. on list elements, restructuring of nested interactive componentsKeyboard accessibility: Previously unusable areas have been made accessible for keyboard users and users of assistive technologiesAccessible labels and correct use of aria-labels
Key Benefits:
Improved keyboard accessibility, enabling more efficient navigation and interactions that were previously inaccessible by keyboardMore accessible data visualizations, including alternative text for meaningful images and alternatives to interactive graphsMeaningful labels and improved semantic structures, making the codebase more robust and improving the experience for users of assistive technologiesIncreased color contrast on UI elements and focus styles for better visibilityA better, more consistent user experience overall
