Smartling

The Smartling app connects a Storyblok space to Smartling and requests translation jobs from inside Storyblok. The app imports translated content asynchronously, so the job continues while you work.

Features

• Request a translation job for a folder.
• Name each job.
• Select the target language and the content to translate.
• Assign a workflow stage to the imported translation.

Setup

1. Create a Smartling account and install the Smartling tool plugin in Storyblok.
2. Generate a project token in Smartling.
3. Open any story, select Tools from the menu, and enter the user identifier, the token secret, and the project ID in the Smartling tool settings.

Requesting a translation

The app supports folder-level translation only.

1. Write the stories in the default language and mark the translatable fields.
2. Duplicate the stories for the target languages.
3. Open the Smartling tool plugin in a duplicated story and provide the following:
   • Job Name: a unique name for the translation job.
   • Target Language: the language to translate the content into.
   • String to translate: all content, or the content you select.
   • Workflow after translation is finished: the workflow stage the story moves to once the translation finishes.
4. Select Request Translation.

The import runs asynchronously, so the translated content appears once the job finishes.

Limitations

• Each request covers one story and one target language. The app doesn’t support batch translation of multiple stories or languages.
• After you send a story for translation, you can resubmit it only after the Smartling workflow completes and translations publish.
