# Apps

Apps extend Storyblok with ready-made functionality. Instead of building an integration yourself, you install an app into a space and configure it. Install available apps in the [app directory](https://www.storyblok.com/app-store).

## Apps and plugins

Apps and [plugins](/docs/plugins) describe the same underlying extension mechanism from two sides:

-   **Apps** are the installable end product: what you find in the app directory, install into a space, and use.
-   **Plugins** are how that product is built. Field, tool, and space plugins are what you develop, register, and distribute.

If you want to use a ready-made solution, start with the app directory. If you want to build and distribute your own custom-tailored solution, start with the [plugin documentation](/docs/plugins).
